VISIT OF PODAR WORLD COLLEGE (IFP AND EMFSS) STUDENTS AT SENATE HOUSE
Visit of Podar World College (IFP and EMFSS) students to the International study event at Senate House – the heart of the University of London. The event, held over two days on the 28th and 29th September 2016.
Forming a worldwide connection in London – 06 October 2016
More than 100 students from six schools around the world have attended an international study event at Senate House – the heart of the University of London. The event, held over two days on the 28th and 29th September, was the first of its kind.
The programme included lectures, study sessions, workshops and seminars by leading academics from the University of London, with students coming from many countries across the globe to participate. All students who attended are studying at teaching institutions in India, Pakistan and the U.K.
These students, all aged between 18 and 21, are registered with the University of London, and are primarily studying on the International Foundation Programme. This programme qualifies students to progress to an undergraduate degree course, either with the University of London or with other universities around the world.
Students attending the study event were accompanied by staff from their own teaching institutions, which include Podar World College in Mumbai (PWC), India; The Millennium University College in Islamabad, Pakistan (TMUC); as well as four U.K. based institutions – Bournemouth and Poole College; MPW Cambridge; MPW London and ONCAMPUS, also based in London.
Dr Mary Stiasny OBE, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), University of London, said: ‘It is such a pleasure to see some of our students here in London studying together. One of the main aims of this study event is to encourage a transnational and cross-cultural exchange. This enables students to come together and share their thinking and ideas, based on their learning and their experience of the study event in London.’
She added: ‘Following the study event, we now hope that students will keep in touch with each other and continue to learn from their respective study experiences. We have been very fortunate that those academics participating in the study event were able to give up so much of their time, and make such a valuable contribution towards the success of this study event that so many students have benefited from.’
Jay Chhattani from PWC, Mumbai, said: ‘I am very enthusiastic about my international student experience. I attended enlightening workshops and was taught by very experienced faculty. It was an honour to meet the Pro Vice-Chancellor.’
Mahnoor Arif from TMUC, Islamabad, said: ‘Being in London has made me feel more connected to the University. I feel that the University of London has provided an academically rewarding programme, but at the same time it has challenged me.’
Victoria Pozzi Rocco from MPW London said: ‘These lectures were very useful because I met people who grew up in many different education systems. It was interesting that each one of us had different problem solving methods.’
